Cape Coral Residents Use Free Outdoor Gyms Year-Round Despite Heat
Residents turn to no-cost equipment stations and trails in city parks to maintain fitness routines amid rising summer temperatures.
How we reported this

Cape Coral opened three new outdoor fitness stations this spring at Jaycee Park on Cape Coral Parkway, giving residents pull-up bars, leg press machines and balance beams at no charge.
City data from the Parks and Recreation Department recorded 18,400 visits to outdoor fitness areas in the first half of 2025, a 25 percent jump from the same period two years earlier. The increase comes as more locals seek free alternatives to indoor gyms that raised monthly fees by an average of $12 last year.
Stations at Jaycee Park and Rotary Park
Jaycee Park added its circuit along the east edge of the soccer fields in March 2026, with eight pieces of equipment spaced 50 feet apart. Rotary Park on Del Prado Boulevard North installed similar stations near the kayak launch two years ago, including chest press and rowing machines that face the mangrove shoreline. Both sites sit within a 10-minute drive of the Burnt Store and Pelican neighborhoods.
Maintenance crews check the equipment every Tuesday, according to the department's quarterly report released June 30. The stations remain open from sunrise to 10 p.m. daily, matching the hours posted at the main park entrances.
How to use the circuits safely
Walkers and runners can combine the equipment with the paved 2.3-mile loop at Rotary Park or the flat 1.8-mile path that runs beside Cape Coral Parkway. A 2025 city survey found that 62 percent of users combine strength work with at least 20 minutes of cardio on the adjacent trails.
Bring water and start with body-weight movements before adding the weighted machines, especially during afternoon heat indexes that often top 95 degrees in July. The department posts updated trail maps and equipment photos on its website for residents planning first visits.
